Lenovo Ideapad 120s-14IAP will not boot Ubuntu…

Lenovo Ideapad 120s-14IAP will not boot Ubuntu, please advise.:

Took a look at some similar threads, but none seem to describe what I’m experiencing.

Background: I have used Rufus to create an iso of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, went into UEFI, changed the order of boot to USB HDD and then exited. It will go one out of two ways from here. It gets stuck at the Lenovo screen, with a small solid underscore in the top left corner. The second option is me explicitly booting into USB with F12, and then getting stuck on a black screen with the underscore on the left. Both of these screens will just stay there and nothing will happen.

I’ve tried disabling secure boot, and there is no option to boot into legacy mode, and I’m at a loss at what to do from here. Please advise.

Specs: Computer: Lenovo Ideapad 120S-14IAP OS:Windows 10 UEFI:Phoenix SecureCore Technology Setup Linux Distro: Ubuntu 16.04LTS
