Backing up home directory and restoring to a new server has duplicate hadoop:

Hi

I was tasked to copy the old server home directory contents from the old server to the new server.

# on old server tar -zcvf /tmp/hadoop-home.tar.gz /home/hadoop/ # and on new server after scp the file to the home directory tar xvzf hadoop-home.tar.gz mv home/hadoop /home/hadoop rm -r home/

I thought it all worked except today discovered there was a duplicate home directory

/home/hadoop/hadoop

I attempted to

mv /home/hadoop/hadoop /home/hadoop

Though I got a error

mv: ‘/home/hadoop/hadoop’ and ‘/home/hadoop/hadoop’ are the same file

Also attempted

mv /home/hadoop/hadoop/. /home/hadoop

and

mv: cannot move ‘/home/hadoop/hadoop/.’ to ‘/home/hadoop/.’: Device or resource busy

Any ideas?

Edit. added exact error messages and not paraphrased
